Testimonials
"Dylan Gary is not only my favorite one-hour television drama writer, he's my favorite writing teacher as well. Having had the privilege of writing with him on staff (HBO/TELL ME YOU LOVE ME), as well as being mentored by Dylan when I wrote my own pilot, I can personally attest to Dylan's ability to elevate your material at all stages of development. When it comes to story construction, character development, world building, and invaluable input on your material from first to final draft, Dylan is absolutely the writing coach you want in your corner." -- David Gould (Co-Executive Producer FIRE COUNTRY, NASHVILLE, RIZZOLI & ISLES)
"I have taken the Phase I & II classes at NYSL and they were both informative and inspiring. Dylan’s insights provided constructive criticism that displayed not only his mastery of the craft, but also his professionalism. The structure of the class helped me hone my ideas into a script I’m very proud of, and simultaneously offered manageable deadlines even with my full-time career. I highly recommend to writers at any level"

"Dylan Gary is a true talent and an utter original. He possesses a rare generosity toward his fellow human beings. This openness, plus his genuinely curious and amused slant on life, pervades every word Dylan writes, his every interaction with fellow writers and students. We all have a great deal to learn from him, both on and off the page."
-- Anya Epstein (Executive Producer THE AFFAIR, IN TREATMENT)
"Dylan is like the TV Pilot whisperer. There's no problem too big or too small that he can't diagnose. He knows just what advice to impart in order for you to think of your own solution to the puzzle of writing an original script." -- Sherrie F. - Student
"As a film director developing several feature projects for production companies in the US, Canada and the UK, my time and energy is spread thin and sometimes I can lose my objectivity (and my mind!) Dylan Gary is the writer that I call upon to give me feedback on all the scripts I am working on because his insights and suggestions are so astute, helpful and focused. Not only does he give expert structural analysis of the script… but he also asks questions that help myself and the other writers I collaborate with to identify what it is specifically that we are trying to say, or do, with any given beat or piece of action or dialogue and the overall themes and message. He is a true artist, creative, perceptive, magical and always sensitive to the writers and directors own voice and process. I couldn’t recommend Dylan any higher. Wise as Yoda, professional, and hilarious. He always makes the art sing."
-- Kim Farrant (Director STRANGERLAND, ANGEL OF MINE, THE WEEKEND AWAY)
"Anyone who’s taken a writing class can spot a bad one instantaneously: the instructor is a snooze, your classmates are disconnected or maybe just self-absorbed. That one guy who just goes on and on and on clueless of everybody else’s time. So I didn’t know what to expect when I began NYSL, but those were some of my fears. What I found was a near perfect workshop experience: Dylan commands the room without any airs — he’s sharp, genuine, and of course hilarious. He keeps the mood light, but never dull and we keep up a good pace. I don’t know if was lucky with my classmates, or if Dylan’s passion just brings out the best in people, but I thought as a group we had fantastic pilot concepts, great feedback, and everybody was excited to be there each week. If you’re looking develop your pilot writing chops, I can’t recommend NYSL enough. I’d do it again but I’m off to Hollywood- Peace!"

"Dylan has a great ability to awaken the writer inside of you and make you excited to write again. I cannot put a price on the value of that. If your biggest struggle is just getting yourself to write on a regular basis, a workshop with him will do wonders!"
-- Dino C. - Student
"Dylan Gary possesses a truly unique voice and life experience to match. His kindness, empathy, and genuine interest in sharing his knowledge make him an ideal teacher. His students will be lucky. And well entertained."
